Pay close attention to what I am about to say There is one thing that fills the heart of the Son of God from eternity. His hand is filled with one work. The one thing that fills the eternal heart of the eternal God and the work which fills his hands is the salvation of sinners! How I wish we could see this. The Lord our God is ready, willing, able, and anxious to save sinners. (Mic. 7:18-20). His heart is filled with grace, mercy, and love for fallen men.
Nothing is more important to the Son of God than the salvation of sinners. His whole heart is filled with the work of salvation. His hands are filled with the work of salvation. Everything he does, he does for the salvation of his elect (John 17:2; Rom. 8:28-30). The very glory of the Triune God is wrapped up in the salvation of sinners (John 12:28-32). It is the nature of God, the glory of God, the desire of God, the determination of God, and the joy of God to be gracious to and save guilty sinners.
The one thing that fills the heart of the Son of God and fills his hands in the salvation of sinners.
With that in mind, I want you to read Revelation 21:6. May the Spirit of God give you eyes to see, ears to hear, and heart to believe what the Lord Jesus Christ says in this text. "And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely." Did you hear him speak? The Lord Jesus Christ says, "I will give unto him that is a thirst of the fountain of the water of life freely."
These are the words of him who sits upon the throne, the great eternal, sovereign King. Divine sovereignty is not opposed to grace. It is the source and cause of grace. The Lord Jesus Christ may give or withhold as he pleases. But he tells us that it is his will to give. He will have compassion on whom he will have compassion; but he will have compassion. He will have mercy on whom he will have mercy; but he will have mercy. He will be gracious to whom he will be gracious; but he will be gracious.
These are the words of him who has finished the whole work of redemption. He who says, "I will give," is the One who said, "It is done!" These words are spoken by our Lord three times.
1. When he had finished the work of righteous as our Representative, Our Lord said to the Father, "I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do" (John 17:4).
2. When he had suffered the wrath of God for the satisfaction of justice as our Substitute, our Savior cried, "It is finished! And he bowed his head and gave up the ghost" (John 19:30).
3. And now, sitting upon the throne of glory, our great Redeemer declares to sinners by the gospel "It is done!" What is done?
These are the words of that Man who is God our Salvation. When our Savior says, "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end," he is declaring
The scientists tell us that all life originally came from the water. Of course, we know better. Life is created, given, sustained, and taken by God. But, insofar as spiritual life is concerned it is true: All spiritual life comes from and is found in the fountain of the water of life. And that Fountain is Christ.
All that is essential to life Christ is He is the Word who gives life, the Bread who nourishes life, the Light who strengthens and directs life, and the Water who supplies, and refreshes and replenishes life.
A. Christ Is The Fountain Of The Water Of Life. A Fountain implies several things…We must have water, or we cannot live. It is essential to life. Yet, it is one of the most pleasant, delightful aspects of life.
A. This Fountain Was Dug In The Purpose of God.
B. This Fountain Was Opened By The Death of Christ.
C. This Fountain Is Revealed By The Preaching Of The Gospel.
D. This Fountain Is Enjoyed By Faith.
III. Christ Will Give The Water Of Life To All Who Thirst.
This is what our Savior declares. "I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life." How can I persuade you to come to the Fountain and drink in the water of life?
A. Know This The Lord Jesus Christ Keeps A Fountain Open For Thirsty Souls (Rev. 22:17).
The sign over the door of his house is never "Keep Out." It always reads, "Come and Welcome."
B. Our Lord Is So Anxious For Thirsty Sinners To Have Their Thirst Quenched That He Issues Many Invitations To You.
C. The Lord Jesus Promises Water To The Thirsty, And He Cannot Lie.
Do not take my word for it. Do not take the words of these who regularly drink at the Fountain. We might deceive you. You dare not trust a man. But you can trust the Lord God.
D. Our Lord Graciously Explains To Us What It Is To Drink Of The Water of Life.
Even an infant knows how to drink. But our Lord condescends to meet our ignorance.
E. The Lord Jesus Encourages Us To Drink At The Fountain Of The Water Of Life By Giving Us Emblem After Emblem Of His Grace.
F. I Know That Christ Will Give The Water Of Life To All Who Thirst, Because I Drink At This Fountain Continually
G. And I Know That Christ Will Give Water To The Thirsty, Because He Has Pronounced His Own Blessing Upon Those Who Thirst (Matt. 5:6).
IV. Now Hear This And Rejoice Christ Gives The Water Of Life Freely!
He says this emphatically, "I will give to him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely."
V. Now, let me ask you one question, and I am done Are You Thirsty?
You are in great need, I know. But thirst is something more than need. Thirst is need realized. Thirst is the desire, the craving of the heart for water, arising from a sense of need. Are you thirsty? If you are, Come and drink!
NOTE: Thirst will never quench thirst. You must drink from the fountain of the water of life.
