"ALL THINGS NEW"
The New Creation of Grace

Revelation 21:5-8

Don Fortner

Introduction:

How would you like to start all over, to wipe the slate clean, and begin anew? If I could show you, upon the authority of God's own Word, that it is possible to do so, would you be interested? It may be that your life is a mess, a mess that you have made. Perhaps you have even been thinking about putting an end to the mess. What would you give, if you could start all over again? What would you give, if you could have…

Are you interested? If you are, give me your attention, as I read in your hearing the words the Lord Jesus Christ, our great God and Savior. "He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new!"

We know that there is to come "a new heaven and a new earth." John described it in vv. 1-4. We anticipate, with anxious hearts that great day when our God shall make his creation new. We look forward to that new heaven and new earth "wherein dwelleth righteousness." But our dear Savior exercises his renewing, creative power today. In fact, the words of our text are in the present tense. First, John saw the new heaven and new earth that Christ will make in the last day. But, then, he heard the Son of God declare, "Behold, I am making all things new."

It is as though the Lord said, "John the promise of a new heaven and a new earth should not astonish you. Behold, I am making all things new now by my saving, renewing, regenerating grace."

Proposition:

Every time our Lord saves a sinner by his almighty grace he makes all things new for that sinner.

Divisions:

I. The Announcement of Grace"He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new."

"He that sat upon the throne."This is our Lord Jesus Christ, the God-man, our Savior.

"He that sat upon the throne said, Behold!" Give me your attention. Hear and consider what I say. I am doing wondrous things for the sons of men.

"I make" – It is all together my work. I am the Creator, and Maker, and Sustainer of all things.

"I make all things new." What can this mean? (II Cor. 5:17).

A. A New Covenant – (Jer. 31:31-34; 32:38-40).
B. A New Nature – (II Pet. 1:4; I John 3:9-10).
C. A New Relationship – (I John 3:1-2).
D. A New Family – (Mark 3:31-35).
E. A New Record – (Isa. 43:25; 44:22; Jer. 50:20; 33:16).

"Behold, I am making all things new!" Lord Jesus, do make all things new for some here tonight.

II. The Assurance of Grace.

Having made this marvelous declaration of grace, Our Savior, anticipating our hesitance to believe such great things, gives us a perpetual word of assurance. "And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful."

If you come to Christ now, for the first time, this moment, or if you are in Christ for many years – Before God all things are new, perpetually new, immutably new, eternally new!

III. The Accomplishment of Grace"And He said unto me, It is done." O glorious good news! How my heart rejoices to hear the Son of God declare, "It is done!" What is? The whole work of grace, the whole business of making all things new!

IV. The Accomplisher of Grace"I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End." "Salvation is of the Lord!"

V. The Abundance of Grace – (v. 6).

VI. The Admonition of Grace – (v. 8).

You must be made new, or you must forever die! Why will you die? Jesus Christ is…

"It's done!" Oh hear the glorious news,
"It's done!' "It's done!' "It's done!"
Salvation in its fulness is
A work completely done.

The work of grace was all complete
Before the worlds were made.
The Lamb was slain and God's elect,
By covenant grace, we're saved!

The Son of God once came to earth,
His Father's will to do.
And when He returned to heav'n with blood.
Nothing was left to do!

Now, sinner, all your doings leave
And trust the Son of God.
His blood and righteousness receive,
And give all praise to God!
