CHRIST, A PLACE OF SATISFACTION

CHRIST, A PLACE OF SATISFACTION
(II Sam. l7:l7-l9, 23:l5)

These are beautiful pictures of Christ in type. Now he is revealed sitting before a woman of Samaria and Christ requests a drink of water from her. This woman in all of her prejudice says, "How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me , which am a woman of Samaria?" But Christ , who would not leave her to herself, (because it was for her, that he must needs go through Samaria), said unto her, "If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith unto thee, 'Give me to drink;' thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water." The woman's response, "Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?" Oh, the volume of truth out of this sinner's mouth! Truly, a man has nothing with which to draw - he is helpless and hopeless. But this is not just any man, this is Jacob's well and the well knows the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God. How unsearchable are his judgments and his way s past finding out. The well knows the depth of the promises of an everlasting covenant to save his people. The well knows the depth of the satisfaction of the judgment of God and the well knows the depth of my security - I am hidden in Christ. Oh, that we might echo the words of David in II Samuel 23: l5: "Oh, that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!" Evermore Lord, let us drink of you.
