Why are so many unmoved and unconcerned in spiritual matters? How can an individual hear God's unchanging truth and not be changed by it? These things are not because of a problem in the message of the gospel. Though multitudes reject and refuse to believe and bow to the gospel of Christ, it does not alter or diminish the glory of the gospel of Christ one bit. All men are as the scriptures teach "dead in trespasses and sins." Without Christ, they are without hope and without God in this world. They can do nothing to please God and all that they do in trying to is especially obnoxious self-righteousness in His holy sight. None are good, righteous, understand or seek God. The fact that they reject the gospel of Christ is the greatest evidence that this is true. God's rejection of their righteousness confirms the truth that He will accept only that righteousness which He gives, the righteousness of God that He gives by His grace and is received by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Let men seek to establish their own righteousness and stand before God in their filthy rags but He will still reject them. Then let men make sin a little thing or imagine that they can meet a holy and just God with anything but the precious sin-atoning blood of Christ. Justice and wrath will consume them and cast them into hell. The truth remains that without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. Christ's blood will still be the only sacrifice. He will remain the only Mediator between God and men. Salvation will still be of the Lord, by His grace, for His glory and the gift of His love to His people. So what do we do when it is preached and men reject it? We preach it again! We are looking for God's sheep and His sheep will hear His voice and they will follow Him. May we not fall into the snare of thinking that men will be saved because someone can preach it better or because someone is able to appeal to the emotions of men better. If the gospel is clearly preached declaring all of salvation to rest upon the merits of the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone; if His shed blood and imputed righteousness are set forth as the only hope of a sinner before God, what more can be said except to say it again and give as many details as we can. Only pride would make us think that better can be done!
