There is a professional athlete that does the most outrageous things. He dyes his hair many colors, wears women's clothing, curses anywhere anytime, kicks people, etc. Many ask the reason why all this. Here it is! "God gave them over." No other reason! The sovereign, holy Lord said of this man, "Enough." The word "reprobate" means "void of judgement." He cannot judge anything as wrong. His mind is locked in moral insanity.
1. God is long-suffering, but He does let men go.
Jer. 6:30 "Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the Lord hath rejected them." When the Lord rejects a man He lets him do all the evil that's in his heart. God is active in this, for He sends strong delusion (2 Thess.2: 11). This man will swear that he's doing exactly right, and he believes it.
2. All men deserve to be let go.
Rom. 3:22,23 "for there is no difference, for all have sinned." What makes you different from this reprobate athlete? Only grace! God did not let you go. Why not? You'll have to ask Him about that. Either restraining grace or effectual, saving grace must be put forth by the Lord on your behalf, and on my behalf. I Cor.4:7 - "For who maketh thee to differ from another?" Who indeed!
3. Walk softly before Him.
A reverential awe of the majesty of the Lord is evident in all His redeemed ones. They all realize they are vessels of mercy (Rom.9:23), and could have been vessels of wrath (Rom.9:22). I am comfortable in the presence of HIM, but I am not presumptuous. Although I am a son, I do not walk and talk in His presence as if I deserve this place in His family. His grace is amazing to me. Thank His holy Name forever that I am not "void of judgement."
This profane man is no great mystery; the hand of God is being removed from him. This is a frightening thing!
