As Garen and I were insulating a house, we found some old newspapers (1920's). The following article was in one of them:
An old black preacher called together his congregation in order to pray that God would end a rather lengthy drought. After looking at them for some time, he said in a dissatisfied voice, "You are a most scandalous group of people. We have met here today to plead with the Lord to end this drought and send us some rain, and not one of you sinners had faith enough to bring an umbrella!"
How well this describes me! I often pray, but have very little expectation that my prayer will be answered with a yes. God forgive us! Whenever we pray, let us bring an umbrella!
