Hebrews 2:9

HEBREWS 2:9

Gene Harmon

Notice, it does not say, "We have seen Jesus"; or, "We will see Jess", although both of those statements are true. Hebrews 2:9 says, "We See Jesus", which denotes a continual gaze. Christians are "looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith" (Heb. 12:2). Mr. Spurgeon said, "We see Jesus; we do see Him now and continually. This is the common habit of the Christian; it is the element of his spiritual life; it is his most delightful occupation; it is his constant practice."

We do not see Jesus with the physical eye; - we see Him through the eye of faith. Faith is the eye of the soul. As a window is an opening through which light is allowed to enter a dark dwelling, faith is the window through which the light of God' s glory comes streaming in. God Himself is the One who commands the light to shine in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ (2nd Cor. 4:6).

How do we see Jesus? Hebrews 2:9 says, "But we see Jesus, ... CROWNED WITH GLORY AND HONOUR". We see Jesus as King of kings and Lord of lords. We see Jesus as the Omnipotent, Onniscient, Onnipresent, sovereign God who reigns over all His works; as the One Who works all things after the counsel of His own will. We see Jesus as the One who set us free from the power of Satan, the power of sin and the power of self. We see Jesus as the One Who upholds all things by the Word of His Power, Who engages the wheels of providence as it pleases Him to fulfil that which He ordained in eternity past. We see Jesus as the One who hath begun a good work in us; as the One Who will continue to work in us until we are presented before Him without spot or blemish. We see Jesus as the object of all worship and praise; as the One to Whom every knee should bow. Through the eye of faith we see Jesus as Prophet, Priest and King, as our Redeemer, as the only mediator between God and men; as our Heavenly Lawyer who will never lose a case because He is also seated on the throne of judgment.
