I was recently reading a publication in which the editors encouraged the readers to call a safe drinking water hot-line. It was a toll-free number with references to accredited water-testing labs in all states. Although much water is treated, and it tastes all right, it is not necessarily safe.
Spiritually, many judge the spiritual water they drink by the same standards. Because the preacher has treated the message for them, there are no putrid odors, and it is appealing to the taste, they assume that all is well.
How many today are drinking the contaminated water of Universalism! It seems safe to many, and tastes right to the natural man, but it is poison. The teaching of Univeralism says that Jesus came to save everybody. People are told that God is limited by man's will or choice in the matter The contaminants are that it makes man the authority in salvation and not God. It puts man's work above the work of the Lord Jesus Christ:
The pure water of the Gospel is that our salvation is all in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. If we believe, it is because the Father chose us in Him before the world began, Acts 13:48. If our sins are forgiven, it's because Christ bore them all away in His death on the cross, Colossians 1:14. If we are the Lord's it is not so much that we have accepted Him, but that He has made us accepted in the Beloved, Eph. 1:6.
Let's drink of the pure, free water of God's grace in Christ. It is pure and does not need our additives. The water that men have treated and served up is It'll of poison and will most certainly kill you, Philippians 3:2.
