Seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger.
There is one thing that I desire above all other things. What is it? A million dollars? Perfect bodily health? Success? Oh, no! These things are as fleeting as the wind. What then is that great desire? THAT I MIGHT BE HID N THE DAY OF THE LORD'S ANGER. It may be! It is for sure if I am hid in that day, two things are needful according to our scripture: righteousness and meekness, and neither of these are found in man. They both must be a gift from another source.
Actually, our righteousness is someone else. "This is his name whereby he shall be called, The Lord our righteousness" (Jer.23:6). Our Lord Jesus Christ is righteousness, and by virtue of being in Him by faith, we are made the very righteousness of God. "That we might be made the righteousness of God in Him". (2 Cor.5:21).
Yes, when Christ fulfilled the law and suffered its just penalty in our stead by His blood shedding, He is "made unto us righteousness" (I Cor. 1:30). This righteousness is freely given as a gift of God's grace.
If we realize that we deserve everlasting condemnation, and then see that God has bestowed the righteousness of His dear Son on us, it knocks all the stuffing out of our inherent pride. We bow as the publican, and beat upon our breasts and beseech the Lord, "be merciful to me, the sinner." None of this cooperation junk of modem religion. We don't cooperate with the Sovereign; we just receive as a bankrupt dweller on the dung heap.
So, two things if we are to be hid in the day of the Lord's anger. This is my desire. I have both in our Lord Jesus Christ's shed blood.
