Idolatry is the worship of a god of one's own making. While many of us would not think of ourselves as idolaters yet we may entertain idolatrous thoughts about God in our heart. We imagine Him to be one way and yet He reveals Himself otherwise in the Scriptures. The question we must ask ourselves is, "Do I worship the God of the Bible or the god of my own imagination?"
Here are some very clear statements about the God of the Bible.
1. GOD IS ABSOLUTELY SOVEREIGN "My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure." Isaiah 46:10
2. GOD ALONE CAN SAVE "Not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to His mercy He saved us..." Titus 3:5
3. GOD GRACIOUSLY SAVES WHOM HE WILL "I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion." Rom.9:15
4. GOD CHOSE FROM ETERNITY THOSE HE WILL SAVE "Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began..." II Tim. 1:9
5. GOD SENT HIS SON TO REDEEM HIS ELECT SINNERS "I am the good shepherd; and I know my sheep.. and I lay down my life for my sheep." John 10:14,15
6. GOD INVINCIBLY DRAWS HIS CHOSEN ONES TO CHRIST "All that the Father gives me shall come to Me and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out." John 6:37
7. GOD KEEPS FROM FALLING THOSE HE HAS SAVED "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand." John 10:29
IS THIS THE GOD YOU KNOW AND WORSHIP? THERE IS NO OTHER!
