EVIDENCES:

PAUL MAHAN

If you would ask me the clearest evidence of a truly convened person, I would say it would be concerning his attitude toward the Gospel. When God calls a person by the Gospel, he falls in love with Christ and can't get enough of hearing Him preached from that day forward. Of all the persons I have witnessed over the years that seem to be genuine believers, their love for the hearing of the Gospel has never diminished. They are just as enthused about it and moved by it now as they were when they first heard it They do not look for excuses to miss it but are looking for opportunities to attend it. If these are your feelings about Gospel preaching, THANK GOD!

If you would ask me the clearest evidence of an unconverted state or apostasy, I would say it concerns the same thing; it would be that person's attitude toward hearing the Gospel. Indifference, poor attendance, lack of joy, and rejoicing upon hearing the Gospel, and constantly looking for excuses to miss it are clear signs to me that a person is not in love with Jesus Christ. If you really love someone, you want to be with him, never get enough of hearing about him or talking about him, and love those who are most like him. If you find the hearing of the Gospel to be a burden to you rather than a pleasure and do not experience any real joy upon hearing it, ask God to help you, speak to you, make His word burn within you until it catches your heart afire. If you are not concerned, may God have mercy upon you.
