"To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace."Ephesians 1:6,7
The Bible attributes the salvation of sinners to one reason alone-the glory of God's grace. Any who have been made to see His glory, know and believe His grace in Christ-electing grace, redeeming grace, regenerating grace, justifying grace, sanctifying grace, glorifying grace. This grace is shown to sinners on one basis alone- the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ's coming, living, dying, rising, and ascending, effectively accomplish three things for you as a believer, if God has made you so in His Son.
1. As a believer, God FORGIVES you all your sins for Christ's sake, (past, present and future). The apostle Paul wrote, "We have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins..." Ephesians 1:6. God forgives all that Christ has redeemed because He has charged every sin to His Son. 'Justice cannot twice demand, first at the Surety's hand and then again at mine.' If God has nailed your sin to the cross in Christ, justice is satisfied, Col. 1:13-15.
2. As a believer, Christ SAVES AND JUSTIFIES you based on His work alone. All that is necessary for the justification (perfect standing) of the believer was fully accomplished when Christ died on the cross and rose again, Romans 4:25. The resurrection of the Lord Jesus is proof positive that He has satisfied all of God's righteous demands on behalf of His people. Otherwise, the Father would not have raised Him from the dead.
To be justified means that God the Father clears the guilty one of ALL charges, and accepts him in Christ. The justified sinner stands before God in perfect holiness, just as if he had never sinned, and just as if he had always obeyed. No one can lay any charge against God's elect, because Christ is their justification and sanctification, Romans 8:33.
3. As a believer, Christ has REDEEMED you. This is the happy result of the successful work of a successful Savior. Since Christ is already in heaven interceding for those that He redeemed, then the Word assures believers that they share with Him that glory, John 17:24. So perfect is the union of Christ with His people, so exact His work as their Representative that He sees all that the Father has given Him as one with Him, Hebrews 2:13. God's elect were in His loins as Representative, although not yet born, as much as they were in their earthly representative Adam being not yet born. However, what a different result. All Adam could bring to his seed was death and condemnation. Christ brings to His seed forgiveness of sins, justification, sanctification, redemption, and glory!
