“…See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.”–Hebrews 8:5

We live in a day when people decry doctrine. The watchword of the day is ‘love’ not TRUTH. Sadly, many will go to eternal condemnation loving themselves and their own righteousness, not having paid attention to the detail that God has so clearly set forth in His Word.

1. The example of Adam and Eve- they never imagined that by that one act of disobedience, a whole race would be plunged into judgment, Romans 5:12. Yet, God being Holy and Just could not do otherwise. The wages of sin is death, Rom. 6:23.

2. The example of the animal skins- Adam and Eve thought to rectify the situation with fig leaves, a type of works religion. However, God would not be satisfied with anything less than a satisfactory sacrifice. Therefore, He killed some innocent animals and clothed them with their skins. In so doing, He laid down a type of the foundation of salvation by the work of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ as the Substitute for His people. Does it matter how sinners come to God? Absolutely! There is a big difference between fig leaves (man’s works) and animal skins (the imputed righteousness of Christ), Phil. 3:9.

3. The example of Cain and Abel- Cain found out the dire consequences of substituting fruit and vegetables for a lamb. Without shedding of blood there is no remission, Heb.9:22. Beware of substituting your works, will, worship, or walk as an offering to God, in place of the Lamb of God. Any who are accepted are accepted ONLY in the Son, the Lamb of God.

4. The example of Moses and the tabernacle- The tabernacle in the wilderness was typical of the human nature of the Lord Jesus Christ. God dwelt there, His glory was seen there, and He granted His presence there, because of the sacrifices. Yet these were but a type of the body of the Lord Jesus, in which God “tabernacled” among men. The glory of God was revealed in the face of Christ Jesus. Through Him God the Father communes with His people. It is by Him that His people offer sacrifices of praise. It is to Him that the true Israel of God looks for atonement, forgiveness of sins, and righteousness. Every piece of furniture in the old tabernacle and every service offered was a picture Christ the Redeemer, High Priest, and Sacrifice.

Pay attention to detail! It all concerns the glory and honor of God. What concerns God’s glory, concerns God’s Son. What concerns the Son, concerns His people!
