And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us
John 1:14

"That where I am, there ye may be also."–John 14:3)

When I was a child, a good many missionaries passed through our church telling us of their work in various countries. I was always impressed by the sacrifices made by those who went to the more uncivilized areas, for in so doing they gave up so much of the conveniences and comfort of the United States. Some of them went so far as to live very much like the people to whom they ministered.

But none can match the sacrifices of the Heavenly Missionary! He became like us, putting on our mortal nature, and dwelt among us as one of us that He might declare to us the gospel of God's grace. Moreover, He came to sacrifice Himself in order that there would be a gospel to proclaim. The glorious Son of God, who dwelt in pure bliss and glory, veiled himself in our inglorious nature, and traveled from the His glorious home to our spiritually backward place and lived here for years, then died here at our hands. The result is, those who believe on Him are permitted to go where He is, behold His essential glory, and be made like Him.
