"Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus."John 1:35-37
The goal of every true gospel preacher is to be a "finger" in pointing men and women to the Lord Jesus Christ. They know that salvation is by looking unto Jesus and not unto them. Self glory cannot be a part of the gospel ministry because "he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord." We have nothing to boast of because God has chosen the "base" things. John said, "He must increase and I must decrease." We are not to obscure Christ by putting self in the way. The apostles reminded those that heard them "we are but men." Those who love Christ and desire His glory in this world do not do things, say things or in any way conduct their ministries in a way so as to draw attention to themselves. "Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake." (Psa. 115:1) We are not to be known for our personalities, our charisma, our knowledge or our eloquence. Not only do we point men and women to Christ as John, we speak of Christ emphasizing Him in a certain character, His character as the Redeemer! John said, "Behold the Lamb of God!" God's appointed sacrifice for sin! The Lamb "slain from the foundation of the world." The Lamb "without blemish and without spot." The Lamb pictured in Abel's lamb, in the Passover lamb and in every sacrificial type in the Old Testament. Christ is God's Lamb, to satisfy His justice in the matter of our sin. He is the Lamb God has provided for Himself. The Lamb whose blood redeems us from sin. When Christ is preached by those sent of God, men do not praise or follow the preacher himself but the One he declares. Let me be like John: "And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus"
