I know that what I do has nothing to do with my salvation. It in no way changes my relationship with God, because that is based solely on Christ's doing. But I cannot say, as I have heard said, that "I do not care a thing about what I do." I cannot say that because what I do involves the glory of my God and Saviour. I am told that while my doing adds nothing to my salvation, I am still to do all to the glory of God. I cannot justify my disobedience to the plain commands of scripture by hiding in the doctrines of Divine predestination and sovereignty. Our conversation and conduct before men, our honesty and integrity in our dealings with others, our faithfulness to the ministry of the gospel, all our attitudes and actions are to be to the glory of God. I will not wear the straight jacket of religious Pharisees; but at the same time, I desire to live in this world so as to "adorn the doctrine of God and Saviour IN ALL THINGS." "He that abideth in Him ought himself also to walk even as He walked" (I John 2:6). David's misconduct was forgiven and put away by God. But let us never forget the charge, "Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme;" and the natural consequences of sin, "The child also that is born unto thee shall surely die." May our grace be not only in talk but in walk.
