Many who profess to be Christians think that salvation comes in believing that Christ died for you. They say, "if you just believe it for yourself then you are saved." How deceived such are, thinking that they are saved because of their decision, or belief that Christ died for them."
Saving faith is not in believing THAT Christ died for you. Nowhere in Scripture do we find such an "offer" extended to sinners. One of the old writers said, "I do not believe in Jesus because I am persuaded that his blood was shed for me, but rather I DISCOVER THAT HIS BLOOD WAS SHED ESPECIALLY FOR ME from the fact that I have been led to believe in Him. I fear there are thousands of people who believe that Jesus died for them, who are not born of God, but rather hardened in their sin by their groundless hopes of mercy.
The Scriptures teach that true faith is the Spirit of God revealing HOW that Christ died, according to the Scriptures- Who died? Why He died? What He accomplished by His death? Where is He now?- I Corinthians 15:1-4. HE only is the believer’s ground of mercy. Such He causes to hang their guilty souls on Him.
