THE EXCLUSIVENESS OF THE GOSPEL

THE EXCLUSIVENESS OF THE GOSPEL

Doug Weaver

There are those that say we are too narrow minded and dogmatic in what we preach. If this question has ever crossed your mind may I remind you of the account when the Israelites were in Egypt. The final plague that the Lord would bring upon Pharaoh and the land of Egypt was the death of all the first-born of every family. God gave the children of Israel very clear and precise instructions on how they could find safety and escape death. Read Exodus 12:1-13 and see what was required of the Israelites.

If they did exactly what God said, they would be saved from certain death. There was no room for discussion nor debate. They had to do exactly what God required. Can you imagine what their fate would have been if they decided that the instructions were to narrow minded? If they felt that just killing the lamb was sufficient without putting the blood on the door case? If they decided to keep some of the left-overs for another day? If they felt that God would save them another way? If they felt that the lamb killed by their neighbors covered them too? All of this would of course mean certain death.

We live in a day when religious people are saying that it is not important how Christ's blood was shed. Some would say that he died for all men. If that would have been the conviction of the people of Egypt they would have been sadly mistaken. Others would say today that one could be saved under the preaching of a false gospel. If the Israelites had listened to any other plan of salvation they would have certainly perished. There was only one way for the Israelites to be saved in that day and it must be the way God has prescribed. Sinner, if you have been resting in some decision you have made while sitting under the preaching of a false gospel, you are resting in a false refuge. Just as the Israelites could not have been saved by listening to any other message, so sinners today will never be saved unless they hear the truth about how God saves sinners.

And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true, and we are in Him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ. THIS IS THE TRUE GOD AND ETERNAL LIFE. I John 5:20
