In his second: letter to the Corinthians Paul said, "I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ" (11:3).
There is a wonderful simplicity in public worship, which, by the grace of God, we must maintain at all costs. The primary purpose of gathering in the Name and Presence of God is the preaching of "Jesus Christ and him crucified." This serves two chief ends: (1) It promotes the worship of God in Spirit and in truth. (2) The salvation and edification of God's elect.
There is no magic in the preaching of the gospel of God's free saving grace in Christ Jesus, but it is God-ordained, God-honored and indispensable. It is primary, paramount, A MUST!
(1) ANY ACTIVITY which detracts from this solemn purpose of the church is destructive of this simplicity. Entertainment, sports, social issues, church schools, day care centers, etc.
(2) ANY THING which draws attention to the worshipper is destructive of this simplicity. Rituals, ceremonies, pretty robes, bright gowns, etc.
There is Christian Rock music,
Country-Western and swing;
There is something for all,
"Come and do your own thing."
The sovereign God is not mentioned
On His high and holy throne;
Men all bring their own notions
And mold a god of their own.
There are no doctrinal divisions,
No cause for any to get sore;
All is sweetness and perfume
Of THE WORLD'S GREATEST WHORE!!!
