PEACE

PEACE

Maurice Montgomery

Peace. Doesn't that little word have a sweet ring to it? There is something naturally appealing and alluring about the very sound of it. Peace. Therefore is it not sad that so very few people ever experience true and lasting peace? National leaders and politicians pursue peace among the nations through the art of diplomacy and psychologists and psychiatrists are ever trying to establish personal inward peace, but no true and lasting peace is to be found through these means. "There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked" (unbelievers).

Peace means tranquil, calm, a quiet state. Peace is the absence of agitation, anxiety, conflict, strife, etc.-undisturbed! What a wonderful state of mind and heart! Paul and Silas knew this peace when they sat imprisoned with bleeding backs "singing praises finto God" (Acts 16:25). Paul expressed this peace when he said, "I have learned that in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content" (Phil. 4:11). Old Simeon said, "Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart (die) in peace: FOR MINE EYES HAVE SEEN THY SALVATION" (Luke 2:29,30). There is the key to peace for sinners, "Mine eyes have seen thy salvation." "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord forever: for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength" (Isaiah 26:3,4). "Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace" (Job 22:21). "Come unto me," says the Lord Jesus Christ, "all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matt. 11:28). Peace with God, peace in your heart, peace to live, and peace to die. What a REST! What PEACE!

Under the blood of Jesus, Safe in the Shepherd's fold,
Under the blood of Jesus, Safe while the ages roll.
Safe though the worlds may crumble,
Safe though the stars grow dim.
Under the blood of Jesus, I am secure in HIM.
